Dimensions of Christmas

Christmas takes us back in time
To an evening long ago
When the tiny infant Jesus
Came to earth amidst the low
Of cattle. He was laid
In a manger by His mother,
Mary. Shepherds came and paid
Homage to their Lord and Brother.

Christmas beckons us ahead
To the time when Christ returns:
As the Righteous, Glorious King
He will reign on earth. One learns
In sacred scripture more
Of the long foretold event
And of things to come before
As well as after His advent.

Christmas bids us to reflect
On the season which is here,
To consider faith and hope
Now and all throughout the year,
To enhance our love and giving
As He loved and gave for all,
To bear witness He is living
And to heed His constant call.
