"Why have the Christmas season?"
I asked myself one day.
Then as I sat and wondered
I thought I heard someone say:
"Love is the reason for Christmas,
The reason we celebrate so.
Love is the reason for Christmas,
A love expressed long, long ago
When a kind, loving Heavenly Father
Sent His Son, Jesus Christ, here to earth.
Because of their love for each person
All mankind can experience rebirth."
"Why give out Christmas presents?"
I asked one morning bright.
Then as I thought and wondered
The reason came clear that night:
"Love is the reason for giving
Of presents to all that we know.
And in return for that giving
We feel a special, warm glow,
A warm glow that can brighten our Christmas,
Like the glow that once shone through the night
And guided the wise men to Jesus
As they followed its heavenly light."
Why is the Christmas season
Enjoyed by young and old,
A time of joy and gladness
In spite of the winter's cold?
Love is the essence of Christmas.
It's the reason that this time of year
Is filled with such sharing and caring,
With laughter, best wishes, and cheer.
So as love fills our hearts at this season,
And we say, "Merry Christmas," again,
May we pass on the angels' glad message:
"Peace on earth and good will to all men."
